Nothing quite prepares one for what’s to come when one first sees Slavonice town appearing on the horizon riding along apple tree lined road. Like the UNESCO Heritage town of Telc not far to the north, Slavonice features a wonderfully preserved square with Renaissance gables and sgraffito facades. Founded in the 13th century, marked by Gothic gates, Slavonice experienced its flowering in the Renaissance period from mid-15th to 16th centuries. Its burghers’ houses with their richly decorated Renaissance gables are simply superb and impressive and the town provides for a fine stop on your route.
